On September 24, 2020 at the annual general meeting, Protein Industries Canada elected four new members to their board of directors. The directors bring diverse experience and skills that will help guide the organization to navigate the next steps of increasing value-added processing in Canada.
The new board members are:
- Karen Chad – University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, Sask;
- Karen Churchill – Ag-West Bio, Saskatoon, Sask;
- Laurie Dmytryshyn – PIC Investment Group, Saskatoon, Sask; and
- Mary Donlevy – Konkin – McKercher LLP, Saskatoon, Sask
The new individuals bring the number of directors from 11 to 12, while also bringing gender-parity to the board. Both are goals of the organization.
“On behalf of the entire Board of Directors, we welcome these four talented individuals to our board,” Chair of Protein Industries Canada Frank Hart said. “The organization has made amazing progress over the past two years. We now have 11 active technology projects and have invested more than $152 million with our partners into the Canadian plant protein ecosystem. I am confident we have the right people on our board as we work to help transform Canada’s agriculture sector beyond a commodity powerhouse to a leader in the processing and production of high-quality ingredients and food products.”
Stepping down from the Protein Industries Canada board of directors are:
- Dr. Wilf Keller – Agri-Food Innovation Council, Saskatoon, Sask;
- Alanna Koch – Producer, Edenwold, Sask; and
- Martha Hall-Findlay – Independent, Calgary, Alta.
"On behalf of the entire board of directors and staff at Protein Industries Canada, I would like to thank our outgoing members for their time and commitment to our organization," Hart said. "All of these individuals contributed greatly to the progress of the Supercluster, but a special thanks must be given to Dr. Wilf Keller who was fundamental to the creation and success of Protein Industries Canada.”
After the annual general meeting, the board re-elected Frank Hart as Chair, Annette Revet as the Chair of Governance and Nominating and Vice-Chair, and Dave Dzisiak as the Chair of Audit and Finance Committee.
